Outdoor Maternity Photo Shoot
While maternity photoshoots are a specialty for Saren, please note that DUE TO DEMAND, Saren is currently only taking on maternity photoshoots as an ADD-ON photoshoot (either mini or full session) to clients booking their newborn photoshoot. We know every photographer works things a little different from the next, so here are a few answers to questions we receive most!
When and where are maternity photos scheduled & taken?
This is the very first question expecting moms have when thinking about photographing this exciting time in their family’s journey! We try and schedule these portraits between 30-36 weeks when possible but sometimes we do them a little more last minute before the birth depending on when the session was booked and also, depending on the weather. While Saren’s studio makes for a gorgeous and classic look for photos, sometimes incorporating children in an outdoor setting is a little easier so we shoot for a warmer-weather month if thats possible. For level of comfort during poses and standing for over an hour, we suggest earlier in your pregnancy vs waiting until after 36 weeks. We HAVE successfully done them up until day before c-section though! When weather allows for a fully-outdoor pregnancy photoshoot, (typically the months of mid-April thru end of October) Saren will have you choose from several locations in Connecticut where she knows the light well and has photographed many times before. Her typical locations include farms, field, beaches, wineries, state parks, etc. You do NOT need to come up with a unique location or have that stress – Saren has several amazing spots! You can also request a private residence location if you or somebody you know has a gorgeous space to photograph in. Saren will walk you through a few questions with regards to determining if the location would work for your special photoshoot.
Types of Outdoor Maternity Photo shoots
When booking your maternity pictures, you can choose a MINI or a FULL session. An all-inclusive mini session is about 30 minutes long and includes one or two looks. The session will yield a gallery of about 15-25 images depending on if there are children/family/partner images or just mom and baby bump. You’ll then choose FIVE for full edit to keep in high-resolution digital format.
A FULL maternity photoshoot session includes paying just a $175 session fee, then choosing and purchasing a collection after you view your gorgeous gallery! A FULL outdoor session will give you the option of 2-4 looks and full access to the studio wardrobe for extra gowns. A typical full outdoor session yields about 30-50 images depending on if there are family images or children involved and how many looks you’d like to do.
What to wear for maternity pictures?
Saren has several beautiful fits-most-all maternity and post-partum gowns in her studio and can also bring any of the to an on-location photoshoot upon request. Either way, we ALWAYS suggest to clients looking into a gown company outlined in our prep guide as being a very affordable way to have a custom, comfortable, bump-showing gown for around $100. We give several suggestions at time of booking and in our Prep Guide, sent after your booking form is received. Feeling comfortable in the color and cut of your maternity gown will enhance your images and make the session even more memorable! If there are any images you see in this gallery or in the Welcome Guide that you’re wondering if we have the gown in the studio stash for you to borrow, just ask! We likely have it as we tend to purchase gowns from clients after they are done using them and have had them dry-cleaned.
Its an absolute JOY for Saren to see your baby bump photographed beautifully and then meet you again for the newborn photography session a few weeks or months later after having met for the maternity photoshoot. We hope you’ll read through a few of these client testimonials (over 125 more on Google reviews!) to gage weather or not SCP would be a good fit for your upcoming maternity and newborn photography needs.
